Whitney was born to musical parents John and Cissy Houston. Whitney's mother, Cissy, is a best known for singing back-up to such historical artist as Elvis Presly, Aretha Franklin, Luther Vandross and David Bowie. Her cousin is soul sensation Dionne Warwick. Music truly runs through Whitney's family and it is no wonder that Whitney has become such a huge success.

After graduating from a parochial school in New Jersey, Whitney began modeling for several top of the line magazines. He modeling career, though destined for success, came to an abrupt end when Clive Davis, president of Arista Records, heard her singing in a New York nightclub. He signed her.

Whitney's first album, Whitney Houston, was released in early 1985 and sold 12 million in the US and more than 20 million worldwide. She followed with Whitney , and I'm your baby Tonight which all were hits. In 1992 Whitney successfully tried her hand at acting in the motion picture The Bodyguard. The soundtrack was certified 14-times-platinum and was Album of the year in 1992.

On July 18, 1992; Whitney married singer Bobby Brown. The couple have a daughter, Bobbi Kristina, who was born in 1993. In the middle of a troubled marriage, Whitney appeared in her second movie, Waiting to Exhale . The success of her second movie took the tabloids attention away from her marriage. Waiting to Exhale was a smash hit. The soundtrack, which featured Whitney Houston and other R&B sensations, along with the movie is setting records throughout the music industry. Whitney recently released her latest film The Preacher's Wife with actor Denzel Washington. So far, the movie is off to a slow start, but things should pick up soon.
